An Airbus A 320 flying low through Germany at night: a spectacular heavy haulage vehicle, an Actros SLT heavy-duty tractor unit from Mercedes-Benz, drove through Germany and attracted a great deal of attention everywhere it went. No wonder, given the superlatives: 60 m long, 90 t heavy, 5 m wide. The Actros SLT has around 630 hp and is transporting the Airbus A 320 to the south of Germany. The sensational transportation of the aircraft fuselage took around 11 days. In Tallinn/Estonia, the Airbus - damaged during a hard landing - was loaded onto the Actros SLT from Stuttgart-based heavy haulage company PAULE.

A truck ferry took it across the Baltic Sea to Lübeck Seelandhafen. From there, the Actros SLT heavy haulage truck traveled over three nights via Hamburg, Magdeburg, Nuremberg and Stuttgart to the northern Black Forest. The Airbus heavy transport had to leave the highway twice because the bridges were too low. To do this, the Actros SLT drove off the highway onto a side road, where the driver had to reverse the long train in order to re-enter the highway in the other direction. A second Actros SLT machine was required for unloading. The two-pack SLTs pulled the Airbus along a narrow and steep forest path to its new location at the training area of the Special Forces Command in Calw. In future, the Airbus will serve as a realistic training object for the safety of air passengers. According to Paule, the heavy haulage company, they opted for the Mercedes-Benz Actros SLT as the tractor unit, as absolute reliability is essential for such extreme transportation.
