Siemens Mobility sells 1000th Vectron locomotive
Siemens Mobility has sold its 1000th Vectron locomotive. The anniversary locomotive was ordered by the Danish State Railways (DSB). The locomotives will be built at the Siemens Mobility plant in Munich-Allach. The DSB order comprises eight AC locomotives. To date, a total of 1003 Vectron locomotives have been sold to 49 customers in 16 countries. The first Vectron was delivered in 2012.

"The sale of the 1000th Vectron is a success that stands for the long-standing trust and satisfaction of our customers. The Vectron is a locomotive for the whole of Europe that enables cross-border traffic without the need to change locomotives. Our locomotives create corridors across national borders and thus enable efficient, environmentally friendly and reliable European rail transport," says Sabrina Soussan, CEO of Siemens Mobility.
"When modernizing the DSB vehicle fleet, we attach great importance to ensuring sustainable public transport with proven electric platforms. We are very much looking forward to the Vectron locomotives that we have ordered from Siemens Mobility. The fact that we are getting the 1,000th locomotive shows that it is possible to establish standardized products in the rail industry," says Jürgen Müller, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Rolling Stock, DSB.
The Vectron is used for both freight and passenger transportation.
The locomotives can be supplied as purely electric versions for operation in alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) networks as well as multi-system versions (MS) in the 5.2 megawatt and 6.4 megawatt power classes. For freight transport in selected countries, Siemens Mobility also has the standard Smartron locomotive and the Vectron Dual Mode, a combination of diesel and electric locomotive, in its portfolio.

The new order brings DSB's Vectron fleet to 42 vehicles. The company has already ordered 34 AC locomotives from Siemens Mobility in 2018 and 2019. The locomotives are intended for use in passenger transport in Denmark. Delivery will begin at the end of 2020.
