DB Schenker: First autonomous electric truck "T-Pod" in commercial operation

DB Schenker and Einride have launched the first commercial use of a fully electric, autonomous truck - the so-called "T-Pod". The e-truck will transport goods fully autonomously on DB Schenker's premises in Jönköping, Sweden.

The vehicle is also due to be on public roads in Sweden this year.
"At Schenker, we are working consistently on sustainable and innovative logistics. Autonomous driving is becoming increasingly important for this. Together with our partner Einride, we are setting new standards and want to put the first fully electric, autonomous truck on a public road soon," said Jochen Thewes, CEO of DB Schenker.

Remotely monitored without cab

The T-Pod from Einride does not have a driver's cab, instead it is monitored remotely and can also be controlled remotely from distances of several hundred kilometers. Without a driver's cab, the vehicle can be designed more efficiently. At the same time, higher loading capacities, more flexibility, lower production and operating costs and optimized energy consumption are possible.

"Heavy goods vehicles are responsible for a significant proportion of global CO2 emissions. By switching from diesel to electricity, we are reducing CO2 emissions by 90 percent. We are happy and grateful that DB Schenker has chosen to be part of this revolution that can radically change a huge global market," said Robert Falck, CEO and founder of Einride.
