Start of construction for new winkler central warehouse near Vienna
The commercial vehicle specialist winkler is building its third central warehouse in Himberg near Vienna. The official ground-breaking ceremony in Himberg took place yesterday, marking the start of construction on the project. The warehouse is scheduled to open at the beginning of 2019. The new location reflects winkler's growth in recent years and is intended to make logistics in Austria and at the long-established Stuttgart-based company's Eastern European locations more efficient.

"With the additional central warehouse, we want to shorten the delivery routes to our Eastern European locations in order to be able to supply our local customers even faster and more flexibly in future," explains Rüdiger Hahn, CEO of the winkler Group. In future, the new central warehouse will supply the commercial vehicle professional's customers and locations in Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia and Slovakia as well as the customers of the export subsidiary Truck and Trailer Parts worldwide. The new central warehouse is a response to the growth of the group of companies in recent years and equips winkler for future developments.
The site in the up-and-coming municipality of Himberg near Vienna covers 100,000 square meters and offers optimal transport links to the freeway, the airport and the Vienna city area. In the first construction phase, a building will be erected on an area of 50,000 square meters.

The building contains an automated high-bay and small parts warehouse, a manual pallet rack and a hazardous materials warehouse and offers around 80,000 storage locations in the first construction phase. All storage areas are interconnected by state-of-the-art conveyor technology. The building will also house a modern hose production workshop where hydraulic, tank and silo hoses will be manufactured according to individual customer requirements. Training courses on commercial vehicles and workshops will be held in a training center. The building also houses a winkler sales location with an adjoining pick-up market. Fresh and regional food is cooked for all employees every day in the company restaurant. Around 70 people will be employed at the site when it opens in mid-2018, with the workforce set to increase to around 150 employees in the medium term.
The winkler group of companies already has two central warehouses in Ulm and Kassel in Germany, which are among the largest central warehouses for commercial vehicle spare parts in Europe with a storage area of over 65,000 square meters. In future, the 25 winkler locations and customers in Germany and Switzerland will continue to be supplied from here.
