Secure truck parking: Pilot project by Mansio and Kravag Truck Parking

The software service provider Mansio and the insurer Kravag are working together in the area of truck parking space sharing: Kravag Truck Parking can be used to book secure truck parking spaces throughout Germany. In the future, this will also be available for Mansio's encounter traffic.

The pilot phase will start on November 1, 2024, with regular operations scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025. How Kravag Truck Parking works: transport companies at over 90 locations make parking space available to other transport companies. As part of a pilot project, Mansio is now able to carry out encounter traffic on some of these spaces. The concept envisages that in future, participants in Mansio encounter services will be able to book two adjacent parking spaces for 30 to 60 minutes at a fixed unit price. This will give drivers enough time to swap their semi-trailers and take a break at the same time. One of the advantages of this: Dispatchers and drivers take no risks when planning. Reservations that have already been made can be canceled free of charge up to five minutes before the start of the slot.

Technical interface planned

"A good half of the providers we represent have spontaneously agreed to allow trailers to be changed in their parking lots," says Thorsten Gutmann, responsible for business development at Kravag Truck Parking.

Mansio Managing Director Maik Schürmeyer reports on the integration: "After the pilot phase, it should be possible to book directly in the Mansio system via a technical interface." Initial test runs have shown that these parking spaces are high up in the rankings. This is because the algorithm is programmed to minimize empty and detour kilometers. According to the provider, the freight forwarding areas of the Kravag solution meet these criteria, are conveniently located and often have direct highway access.

Complementary concepts

The companies' concepts complement each other perfectly from the point of view of both providers, as both players think in terms of forwarding networks. At Mansio, the hauliers work hand in hand and share the long-distance routes. At Kravag Truck Parking, hauliers make parking spaces available to other companies in the industry. The cooperation is designed in such a way that growth is possible in both directions.
