Safety in the warehouse - 10 years of META rack inspections

Safety first - this applies without exception to the operation and maintenance of storage facilities. The responsibility with regard to operational safety lies with the operator, who must carry out a proper and technically correct rack inspection at least once a year and initiate visual inspections during the year (in accordance with DIN EN 15635 and the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health). META has been offering its customers this service of annual rack inspections for 10 years now. A success story, as the need and demand is constantly growing.

Exactly 10 years ago, Carsten Rump set up the racking inspection service division at the Arnsberg-based storage technology specialist. Today, the head of racking inspections at META-Regalbau looks back on an exciting time. "For us, the focus is on storage safety. Over the past 10 years, the demand for racking inspections has grown steadily, so that we have been able to affix over 32,000 stickers to date. Together, all shelf inspectors have traveled over 1,700,000 kilometers - and that doesn't include a number of kilometers flown," explains Carsten Rump. "We want to and will continue this positive trend in the service of safety".

The Arnsberg-based storage technology specialist offers its customers racking inspections by its own association-certified racking inspectors, who are trained by the Association for Storage Technology and Operating Equipment in Hagen. Fixed maintenance contracts can also be concluded. This ensures that META ensures that the deadlines are met and that the system operator fulfills his obligation to carry out regular rack inspections.

A wide range of training courses on racking safety In addition to the racking inspection service, Carsten Rump's team has also established a training program on this topic since 2009. This includes the META training course on racking safety, which is aimed at end users from the areas of warehouse management, logistics, maintenance, repair, construction and assembly, occupational safety specialists, safety officers and similar persons. Following this one-day training course, participants will be able to carry out visual inspections in accordance with §9.4.2.2 DIN EN 15635.

In addition to the internal training program, a number of external training courses and lectures are held.

These many years of experience have enabled Carsten Rump to build up a high and respected level of expertise, with the result that he has also been working as an external appraiser and expert witness for some time now in addition to his role at META. Rump is increasingly being asked for his expertise, including in the context of private and court expert reports.

A broad and constantly growing field in which Rump and his team have been working in the service of warehouse safety since 2007. "Let's see what the next 10 years bring - we're looking forward to it," concludes Rump.
