Mars Germany, a subsidiary of Mars Inc., was presented with the Lean and Green Award at the 22nd LOG2016 retail logistics congress. This marked the start of the implementation of the company's action plan to reduce logistics-related CO2 emissions by 20 percent within five years. Mars' action plan envisages achieving the planned efficiencies in the areas of warehousing and transport, as well as through supply chain optimization. Collaboration and real-time data exchange are key elements for sustainable improvements.

"The Lean and Green Award is an important first step towards making our logistics sustainable and protecting the environment. We not only want to fulfill the goals of the initiative, but also live the principles of our company," said Romald Heuvelmans, Market Supply Chain Director of Mars Germany.

From action plan to Lean and Green Star

The Lean and Green Award is presented by the initiative of the same name, which is curated by GS1 Germany. The aim of the not-for-profit initiative, which was originally launched by Connekt on behalf of the Dutch government, is to reduce the logistics-related emissions of all participating companies.

It is up to the companies themselves to decide what concrete measures they take to reduce CO2 emissions. From electronic communication and logistics cooperation to fuel-saving
