Customer Service & Support Days at SSI Schäfer

The options for retrofit measures as well as the future-proof and investment-safe design of modernization projects were the focus of the CSS Days at SSI Schaefer. The interest and commitment of the event participants is proof of the market's need for information.

The participants of the CSS Days received information about SSI Schaefer's wide range of services and modernization offerings in exciting presentations.

Joachim Stemmer, Head of the Customer Service & Support department at SSI Schaefer, draws a positive balance of the CSS Days, which SSI Schaefer hosted in Giebelstadt on September 28 and 29, with an "extremely positive response" and "great interest in the various options for maintaining the efficiency and availability of existing systems". 30 participants took the opportunity to find out about new solutions for the care, maintenance and modernization of their intralogistics systems. Under the motto "Let's talk about service", the varied program of the two-day event also included plenty of networking opportunities. "The what and the how were at the forefront of both the exchange of information between the participants and the main topics on offer at the event," explains Joachim Stemmer. "The practice-oriented questions posed by the participants clearly showed that, on the one hand, there is a high investment potential on the market, but on the other hand, there is also a not inconsiderable need for information."

In fact, several participants indicated that they see the need to increase the efficiency and availability of their intralogistics. At the same time, reference was made to the need for future viability and investment security as well as a manageable cost framework for corresponding investment projects. "In many existing systems, the mechanical engineering and racking systems are in a solid condition, meaning that decision-makers are reluctant to fundamentally restructure them," says the service manager, illustrating the dilemma. "Often, all that is missing is modern control technology, energy-efficient drive technology and perhaps a few conveyor technology elements to adapt the systems to current requirements."

The CSS Days at SSI Schaefer provided answers to these questions about what is technically possible and how corresponding projects can be economically weighed up, planned and implemented. At the Technology Center in Giebelstadt, the event participants gained a practical insight into modern system technology and - from system control to energy efficiency - the levers for sustainable retrofit measures. Two practical examples of realized modernization projects illustrated the measures and results of an IT and a system retrofit.

In the in-house technology center, visitors were able to obtain practical information about the possibilities of modern system technology and sustainable retrofit measures.

How such modernization projects are designed to be future-proof and thus investment-proof was highlighted in two program items. Using the example of the TIA Portal from Siemens, the PLC technology of the future and the necessary design of older hardware when migrating to Simatic S7 were discussed. Another focus was on the challenges of the future project Industry 4.0 for intralogistics and plant modernization.

To maintain the performance of logistics systems, SSI Schaefer has also developed a comprehensive, modular portfolio of services ranging from special training concepts and support for the mechatronic and software components to preventive maintenance of the plant systems. After all, "the performance of modern intralogistics systems is largely determined by how they are handled," says Joachim Stemmer. At computer workstations, event participants were able to follow the use of helpdesk, visual support and maintenance tools under practical conditions and see for themselves the range of products and services and the benefits of proactive system monitoring.

"Overall, it was a very successful event. We were able to provide a good level of information and give the participants an overview of the range of solutions for service and retrofit measures as well as the benefits of continuous system maintenance," summarizes the service manager. "In turn, the questions asked by the event participants help us to further develop our service offerings. The CSS Days therefore offer a win-win situation for everyone involved."
