Central warehouse for lighting technology specialists

Shelves in the right light

Storage technology expert META-Regalbau and lighting technology specialist LDBS Lichtdienst have put their collaboration on a firm footing and signed a cooperation agreement during a tour of the new LDBS central warehouse in Falkensee near Berlin to work even more closely together in future. A fitting backdrop - the lighting technology specialist's new central warehouse was realized with shelving and storage technology from META.

The good cooperation between the two companies was also evident in the establishment and consolidation of all smaller warehouses into one LDBS central warehouse. The result is a large central warehouse in Falkensee, in which everything from the smallest LED components to LED strip lights packed on pallets are stored on over 8,500 square meters. META designed, supplied and installed the entire shelving and storage technology. Around 30,000 small storage spaces and 8,000 pallet spaces were created. Robert Bechtle, Managing Director of LDBS Lichtdienst GmbH, comments on the collaboration: "Everything worked out perfectly and the META team did a great job. They moved mountains for us and the field service team always had a competent and helpful contact person on hand. Our praise and thanks go to the entire team."

Different racking systems in use
Due to the different goods stored, the Arnsberg-based warehouse technology expert META used different system solutions for the respective areas. For parts storage in the order picking area, the META CLIP boltless shelving system was installed in combination with structural steel elements over two storeys, ensuring the clear and flexible storage of over 30,000 different (small) parts. The open arrangement of the aisles and the corresponding positioning of the fast-moving items ensure short walking distances and therefore more efficient order picking. Future expansion in terms of articles and turnover has already been prepared, as the two-storey META CLIP racking system is designed for the expansion of an additional storey. Connected to the multi-storey system, special boltless shelving, also based on the META CLIP system, enables optimum storage of various LED long tubes.

Storage locations for manual picking
In addition, the META Multipal pallet racking system was used as a replenishment or seasonal buffer warehouse and for storing other goods, which enabled around 8,000 pallet spaces to be created in the additional storage area. In specially dimensioned pallet racks, wire mesh shelves were used to create storage spaces for manual picking of goods with special dimensions. These 1,500 millimeter deep META Multipal pallet racks also offer storage space for longer pallets thanks to their three uprights. For better identification, the uprights of these rack rows are painted blue rather than red-orange. Basically, the precise planning and positioning of all product groups was carried out according to the rotation speed (ABC analysis). The detailed planning was carried out in close cooperation between the LDBS managing directors Robert Bechtle and Bernd Schwettmann and META's internal and external sales teams.

Optimized energy utilization and energy savings
LDBS installed efficient LED lighting systems from Philips in the central warehouse. Maxos LED light strips illuminate the aisles in the pallet racking aisles and the robust LED warehouse luminaires from Philips ensure optimum lighting conditions in the META CLIP storey system. All LED luminaires use built-in presence sensors to detect activity in the aisles and control the light intensity of the LED luminaires accordingly. In addition, a daylight sensor regulates the required light intensity.

Firm cooperation
The two partners signed a cooperation agreement during a visit to the new central warehouse. As part of the new cooperation, the warehouse expert will focus on equipping its own multi-storey racking systems. META -Regalbau also acts as an intermediary between LDBS and the customer during the order process, so that the warehouses can also be equipped with the appropriate LED hall lighting in this way. Both suppliers have already been able to demonstrate their excellent cooperation in several major projects, so that a fixed cooperation was the logical consequence of this partnership: "This cooperation is an absolute win-win situation for both companies. In future, our customers will benefit even more from our integrated warehouse planning in collaboration with our cooperation partners and LDBS will open up new markets in the warehouse lighting sector," says Michael Steinrücke, Business Development at META, describing the cooperation that has now been concluded. The next orders, joint major projects, have already been won, so that this cooperation is based on a secure foundation.
