Viastore Software implements new WMS for Milchwerke Mittelelbe
Intralogistics expert Viastore has optimized the warehouse management and warehouse technology of Milchwerke Mittelelbe GmbH with its viadat software.
In a multi-stage project, the Stuttgart-based company made a significant contribution to the implementation of an automated mobile racking system, a narrow-aisle warehouse operated by autonomous robots and a channel storage system including a shuttle. The viadat Warehouse Management System (WMS) is responsible for controlling the material flows, managing the work processes and managing the warehouse.
Milchwerke Mittelelbe, or Elb-Milch for short, has been part of the Krüger Group since 1991. At its Stendal site in Saxony-Anhalt, the company produces infant formula, milk powder, coffee creamers and various sweeteners as well as milk and water-based liquid products. The manufacturer decided to automate its warehouse technology and introduce a modern WMS with the help of Viastore in order to make its increasingly extensive internal logistics efficient and future-proof.
The company has apparently been working with the ERP system proAlpha for many years. However, this previously only had a one-sided interface and was therefore unable to process feedback. The Viastore experts therefore developed a multi-stage concept for Elb-Milch: in the first step, the viadat 9.0 Warehouse Management System (WMS) was introduced in conjunction with the existing, manually operated forklift trucks. The software is able to control and manage all processes between incoming and outgoing goods. The next step involved automating a mobile racking system to increase performance and availability. Both took place in the course of 2019.
In spring 2021, a bidirectional interface between the two software applications was put into operation together with proAlpha. The biggest advantage of this is that the ERP system can now also receive and process feedback from the viadat WMS - a much more efficient way of working. In addition, the autonomous warehouse vehicles are controlled by viadat.
