Energy-efficient tugs
The Port of Antwerp inaugurated three new RSD tugs on April 19, 2021. This expansion is part of the renewal and greening of the fleet with a focus on sustainable and energy-efficient vessels. In September 2020, the Port of Antwerp acquired the first RSD tugboat from Multraship NV, followed by two more vessels. RSD stands for Reversed Stern Drive and means that the tug is designed according to the double bow principle. This means that it can be used dynamically as a bow and stern tug. In addition, thanks to its design, the tractor is more energy efficient and equipped with a nitrogen oxide filter to comply with IMO Stage III regulations. The new tugs are a design by shipbuilder Damen.
