Just join in

The German Logistics Congress, which ended at the end of October, will remain in my memory because of a remarkable change: After a long time, the German Logistics Association abandoned its self-imposed neutrality to some extent and used the congress as an amplifier for political demands.

The "Open letter on improvements in infrastructure, urban logistics, qualification and planning procedures" presented at the congress is addressed to the members of the Bundestag and articulates five long overdue demands of the industry in a calm, objective and precise manner. At last! At least three of the demands are also relevant for intralogistics companies: The call for an improvement in digital infrastructure, for overarching solutions for urban logistics and for the improvement of school education with regard to digitalization. Whether you are a shipping company, freight forwarder, logistics manager or air freight provider, this concerns everyone.

"The call for an improved digital infrastructure concerns everyone."

As I have often mentioned here, I don't think much of pigeonholing in the industry (in its creepiest form, these pigeonholes are called "internal" and "external" logistics). It would therefore be desirable if the letter could also be disseminated in intralogistics and find many signatories (see link below).

Around a year ago, our columnist Intra Logistik boldly called for the BVL to be renamed the German Transport Association - or to focus more on intralogistics. Now there is a first common denominator. Every warehouse needs control software and this is of little use if the Internet connection to the outside world is a horror. Every logistics manager needs staff who understand that a scanner is not just the thing that beeps at the supermarket checkout. And the question of the right location for a warehouse will only be answered if we all develop an idea for the urban logistics supply of the future. So: join in and think along, I look forward to your feedback!
