From materialfluss 10/2019

Martin Schrüfer,

Editorial: Then - as now

1969 was a good year for people who wanted to go to the moon. Far less noticed by the public, but apparently also for publishers. Or is it pure coincidence that our sister magazine "LABO" and its cousin from Austria, "dispo", are also celebrating their 50th birthday in 2019? I don't think so, because those who write (the right things!) stay. Congratulations to our colleagues from Darmstadt and Vienna!

In Munich in 1969, the then publisher was working on the first issue of "Materialfluß. Zeitschrift für Transport, Lager und Verpackung" in 1969. In addition to the unusual "ß" at the end (the spelling reform ended the spook on a larger scale in 1996 and the editors in the magazine title as early as 1989), the early proximity of the topics of transportation and warehousing is striking. One makes little sense without the other; today it is called "supply chain management". In the coming year, materialfluss will also be reporting more on what is happening outside of "internal logistics" (another term that was rightly consigned to the linguistic dung heap decades ago) - you will be surprised.

Once again, I was surprised by what managers, industry experts and old companions of the magazine wrote to me about materialfluss. We have published some of the comments from page 16 onwards. So much praise is rare, and my team and I take the warm words as an incentive. So I am left with just one final question: is the golden ribbon that our graphic designer Tanja used to decorate the cover a "Schleiffal" or a "Schlübbsche"? The Lower Bavarian in me naturally thinks the former, but in consideration of our parent company WEKA BUSINESS MEDIEN, which is based in Darmstadt, Hesse, we'll make it a "Schlübbsche" here.

Whether here in Haar near Munich or in beautiful Hesse, with or without "ß": I hope you enjoy reading our anniversary issue and the journey through five decades of materialfluss (from page 26). 50 years - there's still a long way to go!

Best regards
