From materialfluss SPEKTRUM 2020
Editorial: New solutions
New problems require new solutions: The corona pandemic is making many things more complicated and some things impossible at the moment. Industry events such as LogiMAT have been canceled so far this year. However, networking and exchanging ideas are essential for successful business relationships.
With the materialfluss world + conference, we have tried to create a platform for this, even in times of Corona - conveniently from your computer or smartphone, without a mask, but with minimum distance. You can read more about the trade fair premiere on page 6: We are more than satisfied with the result. We would therefore like to thank the numerous visitors and exhibitors at the materialfluss world + conference, the first virtual trade fair for our specialist medium, for their keen interest.
The materialfluss PRODUCTS OF THE YEAR 2020 were also awarded during the trade fair: Readers of materialfluss cast around 10,000 votes in seven categories and chose their "favorites". The atmosphere at the seven web seminar events, which were attended by managers from the companies that made it onto the podium, was correspondingly good. You can find out more about this in this issue from page 16 - or in the numerous videos on the materialfluss YouTube channel.
The industry is constantly facing new challenges, even far away from coronavirus. Trends such as the e-commerce boom and shortage of space require new concepts and solutions.
The contribution that new logistics buildings can make to this is the subject of the special section on new buildings starting on page 26. What should you think of first when building a new warehouse? Which product, service, strategy or technology do intralogistics experts first associate with the word new build? materialfluss gives numerous industry experts the chance to answer these questions, and various practical examples on the subject of new builds round off the special section of this issue, including the cover story: on page 34, you can read how a food retailer is increasingly relying on automation for warehouse technology and order picking, with general contractor Klinkhammer as a partner.
With this issue of SPEKTRUM, the materialfluss team takes its leave for the summer break. materialfluss will be back on September 18. Issue 8-9 will focus on innovations in the field of automated guided vehicles. We wish you a sunny and relaxing summer!
