As part of the growth strategy for the Warehousing business unit, Nosta Logistics GmbH will be opening another site in Melle from July 1. With around 27,000 m² of warehouse and logistics space, the site meets the group's requirements. When deciding on this location, particular attention was also paid to the fact that the property has an active rail siding leading into the warehouse.

Due to the circumstances, the Felix Schoeller Group, a manufacturer of specialty papers, was the first anchor customer to be won over for the new location. Due to the proximity to the Felix Schoeller Group's production plant in Osnabrück and the site's connection to the rail network via a siding, the Nosta Group suggested the property as a storage option to its long-standing business partner. From then on, a storage and management concept was developed with the aim of reducing the number of truck transports in the paper manufacturer's transportation processes and thus relieving inner-city traffic.

The 27,000 m² logistics facility in Melle, which will commence operations as planned during the third quarter following modernization and maintenance, meets the requirements for this objective. The Nosta Group will set up a storage and transshipment center for the Felix Schoeller Group's products on part of the space, with the existing active rail siding being a major advantage of the warehouse location. "The main plant of our anchor customer, which is around 15 km away, can be reached quickly by rail, which also saves resources. In this way, around 3,200 truck journeys in the Osnabrück city area can be avoided every year," says Andreas Wolke-Hanenkamp, Managing Director of Nosta Logistics GmbH. The rail transports are handled by Nosta Rail GmbH.

The Nosta Group has been operating its own combined transport activities since 2009. One project that the two Osnabrück-based family companies have already implemented is the planning and installation of the CT terminal on the site of the Winkelhausen barracks at the port of Osnabrück. Since its inauguration on May 1, 2009, Nosta has been transporting pulp and finished goods for the Felix Schoeller Group using regular freight trains on the Dresden-Osnabrück route. The containers are transported by truck to the port of Osnabrück for loading and from Dresden to the plant in Weißenborn. Over the past five years, the operation of these and other routes has enabled 90,000 loading units to be shifted from road to rail and CO₂ savings of more than 50,000 tons to be achieved.

"We are delighted that we are now continuing this successful model with another rail connection," says Andreas Wolke-Hanenkamp.
