Ecology in practice
B+S receives Lean and Green Award
The logistics service provider B+S has received the Lean and Green Award for its action plan to reduce CO2 emissions. With this award, the non-profit organization Lean and Green and the umbrella organization GS1 Germany, in cooperation with the certification company TÜV NORD CERT, certify logistics companies that act in an ecologically responsible manner in their specific warehouse and logistics processes.
The goal of Lean and Green is to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent in five years. B+S also joined this program two years ago. Implementation of the self-imposed measures to reduce emissions began in 2018. These measures include numerous new logistics buildings with the highest building standards in terms of sustainability, the gradual modernization of the vehicle fleet and the use of green electricity as well as the reduction of transport distances through effective transport management. The feasibility and effectiveness of this action plan has now been certified by the certification company TÜV NORD CERT.
Two years after starting to implement the measures, the logistics service provider from Borgholzhausen in East Westphalia has achieved a CO2 reduction of over 18%. After just three years, i.e. in 2021, B+S will crack the 20 percent mark and achieve the reduction target of over 26 percent. "The results so far and the Lean and Green Award confirm our commitment to sustainable logistics in warehousing and transportation. We will continue and further expand our measures so that we can look forward to a reduction in emissions of almost 40 percent in the target year 2023," explains Stefan Brinkman, Managing Partner of B+S, providing an insight into his company's ambitious goals.
