Crown's Wave multifunctional vehicle celebrates its anniversary

Martin Schrüfer,

20 years of fighting the leaders

Twenty years ago, Crown, a material handling solutions company, launched a multifunctional vehicle that made the use of ladders superfluous in many applications: the Work Assist Vehicle (WAV) - better known as the Wave.
as Wave.

Originally developed for transporting and picking small parts, the range of applications for this all-rounder has grown steadily in the meantime. Compared to ladders, there is no time-consuming ascent and descent and the risk of accidents is reduced. One operator alone can carry out work that would otherwise require two people. The vehicle lifts a person and load to a grab height of up to five meters, travels at up to
meters, travels at up to 8 km/h, almost twice as fast as the average walking speed and can turn within its own dimensions.

"The Wave is very easy to use and helps anyone who has to work at height to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently. As a result, this means fewer accidents, less damaged products and higher productivity," says Product
Marketing Manager Gary Thurner, who helped develop the vehicle twenty years ago as Engineering Manager.

And Theo Egberts from Andersom Testing, who put the WAV 60 through its paces, confirms: "The ability to lift and lower people and goods at the same time makes the Wave not only an alternative to the mobile ladder, but also superior to it in terms of safety and speed."

The areas of application for the Wave have expanded considerably over the years. Companies and organizations all over the world are constantly finding new uses for this all-rounder. The spectrum ranges from retailers and tradespeople to offices, hotels, museums and hospitals, as its applications are extremely versatile: the Wave is a solution for filling shelves or carrying out inventories, decorating rooms, attaching signs, replacing lamps or for cleaning and repair work, for example. The Wave is even used for welding work on ships, handling historical artifacts and even for aircraft maintenance.

Javier Perez, General Manager of the Spanish VP hotel chain, which includes the exclusive VP Plaza España Design 5* Hotel in Madrid, is delighted: "The Crown Wave is a truly multifunctional and easy-to-use vehicle that allows us to reach every corner of our hotel.
every corner of our hotel. It has become an indispensable ladder replacement for maintenance and cleaning work and offers the necessary safety for guests and staff.
guests and employees."

The Wave travels at speeds of up to 8 km/h and is maneuverable, with the AC motor ensuring rapid acceleration. The upper charging platform of the Wave, which can be easily charged at a standard socket via its integrated charger, can carry loads of up to 90 kilograms and can be ordered with optional electric height adjustment. The lower platform can carry a further 115 kilograms.
