The crane systems will be installed in new production halls in Kiel: a real milestone project for Marine Systems, as the site will become an international competence center for submarine production.

Construction begins in Kiel. thyssenkrupp Marine Systems builds a new shipbuilding hall and develops the site into an international competence center for submarine construction. The largest order in the company's history is soon processed here: Six identical submarines will be built by 2034. Four will be delivered to the Norwegian Navy and two to the German Navy. The order is worth around 5.5 billion euros, making it the largest order in the company's history. The submarines will be built with the support of Demag Process Crane Technology.

The submarine segments are manufactured in seven bays and moved by two crane systems each, which run in synchronous operation with a total of four hoist trolleys. Each crane has a lifting capacity of 150 tons. Demag is building the fourteen double-girder process cranes with three different track center distances (from 16.25 m to 35.40 m).

Dr. Thomas Bönker, Senior Vice President Process Cranes: "We are delighted that we were able to convince our customer thyssenkrupp Marine Systems of our process crane technology for this very demanding and future-oriented project and will therefore be supporting them in its implementation. The high traversing and positioning accuracy of the cranes will be in demand, for example, when two submarine segments weighing over 100 tons each have to be precisely positioned by two cranes and four crabs in order to assemble the hull."

Construction of the six Class 212CD submarines will start in 2023, by which time Demag will have manufactured, delivered and commissioned the 14 process cranes.
