KULI hoist senior boss Heinz Helmut Kempkes passes away

The Remscheid-based family entrepreneur Heinz Helmut Kempkes passed away on August 13, 2020 at the age of 72. He put his great creative energy into the crane manufacturer known for the KULI hoists brand for over five decades.

With responsible foresight, he successfully continued the company founded by his father in Duisburg in 1947 and thus ensured its current global significance with customers in more than 120 countries on all continents, writes the company. And further:

"In 1975, Heinz Helmut Kempkes joined his father's company after completing his studies in mechanical engineering and his scientific work at the Chair of Conveyor Technology at the Technical University of Darmstadt, and became managing partner in 1982.

In addition to his regional commitments, such as spokesman for the Wirtschaftsjunioren, head of the Remscheid district committee and vice president of the Wuppertal-Solingen-Remscheid Chamber of Industry and Commerce, as well as his valuable commitment to the common good as an honorary commercial and financial judge, he was appointed to numerous honorary positions throughout Germany and Europe. His extraordinary commitment to the industry was particularly evident in his role as Chairman of the Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association and member of the main board of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), as a member of the Executive Committee of the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF), on the CeMAT Executive Committee and on the Logistics Advisory Board of the Hannover Messe, as the first Deputy President and later as a member of the Honorary Senate of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) in Berlin and as President of the European Materials Handling Federation (FEM ) in Brussels, which represents more than half of the global turnover of the materials handling industry.

In addition to these many years of involvement in established associations, Heinz Helmut Kempkes was also open to new developments and played a key role in the founding of the RAL Gütegemeinschaft Kranservice (GKS) in Siegen in 1999, where he was a member of the board and chairman of the quality committee on a voluntary basis for many years. He also founded the Research Association for Intralogistics Materials Handling and Logistics Systems (IFL) at the company headquarters in Remscheid in 2005. In 2013, Heinz Helmut Kempkes was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding commitment. Heinz Helmut Kempkes set the course for the continued existence of the family business back in 2009 with the appointment of his son Dr. Helmut Oliver Kempkes to the management board. Until his death, he showed his tireless commitment to his crane construction company."
