Online grocery retailer Frisco.pl relies on automation

Around 13 kilometers northwest of Warsaw, TGW has built a distribution center for the Polish e-commerce specialist Frisco.pl in recent months. The highly automated system operates in four temperature zones. The system was handed over to the customer in summer 2019 - just 21 months after the order was placed.

Frisco.pl is one of Poland's leading online grocery retailers. The company relies entirely on online sales and places a particular focus on fast delivery and high service quality. The Klaudyn-based company, which is part of the Eurocash Group, delivers to its customers seven days a week and relies on its own fleet of vehicles and special pick-up stations. In 2018, the e-commerce specialist achieved a turnover of 23 million euros with around 200 employees.

To create the basis for the planned growth in the coming years, Frisco.pl commissioned TGW with the construction of an automated distribution center. The 11,000 square meter system will enable the food specialist to process up to four times more orders than before and also offer its customers same-day delivery.

The TGW system covers four temperature zones: from normal to fresh to chilled and frozen food. At the heart of the solution is a four-aisle shuttle warehouse. Thanks to double-deep storage, it offers more than 36,000 storage locations for containers. 80 energy-efficient Stingray shuttles take care of automatic storage and retrieval, and manage up to 4,300 order items per hour.

The customer orders are assembled at a total of twelve ergonomic workstations, including four high-performance TGW PickCenters. The totes for the individual tours are then loaded fully automatically into roll containers with the help of a TGW robot cell and prepared for dispatch. All processes are controlled by TGW Commander. The TGW Software Suite guarantees optimal process control and ensures smooth integration into the customer's Warehouse Management System (WMS).

Grzegorz Bielecki, CEO of Frisco.pl, emphasizes: "We are proud of the trust our customers place in Frisco. The TGW solution increases the efficiency of our intralogistics processes enormously and helps us to deliver orders to our customers accurately and in the best quality."

"The solution for Frisco is scalable and therefore offers maximum flexibility," emphasizes Johann Steinkellner, CEO Central Europe at TGW. "The system can be expanded quickly if required." As part of a two-year Lifetime Services contract, TGW specialists will also take care of the system during operation.
