Automated processes bring efficiency and safety to the food processing industry. The gripping and handling equipment is essential for this. They have direct contact with the products that later end up on the plates and must transport them hygienically and gently. J. Schmalz GmbH now has the new OFG finger gripper in its range for the automated handling of unpackaged food. Its four rounded flexing fingers imitate the human hand and are made of silicone. When the pressure inside the gripper increases, the finger flexes, creating a positive fit. When the pressure drops, the movement decreases. This allows the OFG to place sensitive products carefully and precisely, even in tight-fitting trays.

The requirements determine the base body and the control unit. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration)-compliant version is ideal for applications in the hygiene sector: its base body made of PET-P (polyethylene terephthalate) is designed to be easy to clean. Alternatively, the finger gripper comes with an aluminum body. This model is suitable for applications in industrial environments, for example in warehouse logistics or as an assembly aid. Optionally, a centrally positioned bellows suction cup increases gripping force and stability when repositioning. Users can also integrate a robot controller and continuously adjust the opening angle and gripping force.
