Knapp Germany celebrates its 15th anniversary

Knapp has been active on the German market since the 1970s and was one of the pioneers in automated pharmaceutical distribution at the time. It was not until many years later, with the diversification into other sectors, that a branch was founded in Heusenstamm near Frankfurt. This year, Knapp Deutschland GmbH celebrates its 15th anniversary and looks back on its beginnings and successes.

Knapp Germany and the headquarters in Austria have a close and successful working relationship. The shared history began in 2007, when Knapp Deutschland GmbH was founded and the company moved into its office in Heusenstamm near Frankfurt am Main. The decision for the location was made quite quickly, as not only are many intralogistics companies located around Frankfurt, but the proximity to Frankfurt Airport also makes it possible to be close to the customer. The office space was recently expanded and offers more room for customer workshops and internal meetings.

Joachim Erhard, Managing Director of Knapp Germany since the beginning, remembers the early days: "We started with two employees in sales and one colleague in administration. Even back then, a lot of value was placed on teamwork. This is still the case today, even though the team has now grown to almost 135 people. I'm particularly pleased that everyone from back then is still with the company today."

Flagship projects and long-term partnerships

There have been many successes, such as the first major order in 2009 for one of the largest online retailers in Germany. The largest shuttle warehouse at the time was realized in a record time of 15 months. This was followed by further projects with well-known customers in all areas in which Knapp is active today. These include wholesale in general as well as online retail, the fashion industry, food retail and production logistics in particular. Knapp also fondly remembers participating in the BVL Congress in Berlin and LogiMAT in Stuttgart - both flagship events where the foundations for important partnerships were repeatedly laid.

Focus on customer service

The branch in Germany has grown particularly strongly in recent years. The customer service business has been greatly expanded, especially through the support of ten systems with resident engineers, as Joachim Erhard emphasizes: "Thanks to a competent field service and our technicians, who work directly with customers as resident engineers, we have been able to establish very close customer relationships." The projects also involve close cooperation with the other subsidiaries in Germany, such as Dürkopp Fördertechnik in Bielefeld, Knapp IT Solutions in Würzburg and Knapp Smart Solutions in Gelsenkirchen.
