DB Schenker has established a daily air freight connection between Shanghai and Munich. Three Boeing 767 passenger aircraft from Icelandair, converted exclusively for the global logistics service provider, will operate 45 flights from Shanghai Pudong to Munich by the end of May.

The first flights of the China shuttle have already brought several tons of medical supplies to Europe this week.

"Where capacity is lacking, we create it. With the China shuttle, DB Schenker is also further expanding its global supply network in the fight against coronavirus," says Thorsten Meincke, Member of the Management Board for Air and Sea Freight at DB Schenker. "With these additional flights, we have demonstrated our ability to act flexibly and quickly during the crisis."

The China shuttle is aimed specifically at customers who are importing medical equipment such as masks or protective suits from China to combat the spread of the coronavirus. The lead time to delivery at the destination is five to seven days. At the start, 45 flights from Shanghai Pudong to Munich are planned, with 12 rotations per week in full operation. An expansion of the shuttle and further connections, e.g. twice weekly to Chicago, are in preparation.

Cooperation partner Icelandair has converted the three passenger aircraft for DB Schenker, removing the passenger seats in the process. This creates more than 200 cubic meters of cargo space in the fuselage and on the passenger deck.
