Calanbau relies on SSI Schäfer

Calanbau Brandschutzanlagen GmbH has commissioned SSI Schaefer to design and equip the intralogistics for its new logistics center in Sarstedt. Among other things, SSI Schaefer will install an automated high-bay pallet warehouse and Logimat storage lifts as a complete solution for the automated storage and picking of small parts.

Calanbau has a broad service portfolio in the fire protection segment. The materials required for plant construction are to be stored in the largely automated logistics center in the future. A 3-aisle automated high-bay warehouse (HBW) with more than 4,000 pallet spaces will be set up for this purpose.

There will be enough space for palletized stock, larger items and containers as well as replenishment for small parts storage. Three Exyz storage and retrieval machines, each with 30 double cycles, will be used for efficient storage and retrieval.

SSI Schaefer is also installing two Logimat storage lifts for efficient picking of small parts and spare parts for sprinkler, carbon dioxide gas extinguishing and fire alarm systems. Among other things, these storage systems offer Calanbau a computer-aided, scalable picking solution based on the goods-to-person principle. According to the company, the compact design and automated processes of the storage lifts also ensure up to 70 percent less walking distance during order picking and a more than 20 percent increase in performance with 90 percent less space requirement compared to static solutions.

The warehouse lifts give Calanbau capacity for several thousand SKUs (stock keeping units). The central storage areas for incoming goods, HBW and outgoing goods are also connected by extensive pallet conveyor technology. It is designed for automated intralogistics material flows with a throughput of up to 180 pallets per hour.

Calanbau decided to implement the Wamas logistics software for coordinated process control in the new logistics center. In addition to end-to-end process control, warehousing and order production, it offers all core functions of efficient warehouse management as well as optimal article management for the warehouse lifts. The new logistics center is scheduled to be handed over ready for occupancy in mid-2020.
