Deutsche Bahn and China Railways (CR) intend to work together more closely in future. This was stated in a cooperation agreement between Deutsche Bahn CEO Dr. Richard Lutz and CR President Dongfu Lu. The two companies would like to intensify their cooperation on China trains and expand the exchange of technology.

Deutsche Bahn and China Railways have been working together on the "China trains" since 2008, when the first train was sent on the world's longest rail link at 10,000 kilometers. Since then, this transport connection has steadily grown in importance: from 2016 to 2018, the annual container volume increased from 30,000 containers to 80,000 containers.

90,000 containers forecast for 2018

DB CEO Dr. Richard Lutz explained: "We can look back on a successful cooperation. A good example of this is the development of transports across the Eurasian land bridge. We expect 90,000 containers on our China trains in 2018. We have currently agreed to expand our bilateral exchange to include new, innovative rail technologies. Both companies will benefit from this."

Many years of cooperation

The two companies have been cooperating for many years. Since spring 2016, the focus has been on three areas: the expansion of rail freight transport between China and Germany, DB's consultancy services for CR in the maintenance of high-speed trains and support for Chinese infrastructure projects in third countries.
