VW Innovation Scouts select Knapp as top innovator
As part of the 11th Logistics Innovation Day 2016, Volkswagen in Wolfsburg named KNAPP the top innovator in the field of logistics innovations. The innovation scouting focused on IT concepts and new logistics approaches. Among the 18 finalists, Knapp impressed with its autonomous, flexible shuttles.
At the Logistics Innovation Day, all senior logistics managers from the 119 companies belonging to the Volkswagen Group worldwide came together to present developments and pilot projects. Efficient logistics processes are particularly in demand in the automotive industry, and increasing digitalization is also opening up completely new opportunities in logistics. In order to identify these trends and research new technologies, VW has invited external companies to submit their logistics innovations.
With its innovative shuttle concept, Knapp successfully prevailed over 128 applicants in a multi-stage process consisting of concept presentations, hearings and factory tours. Together with 18 other finalists, Knapp was invited to the Logistics Innovation Day in Wolfsburg to present the new shuttle solution.
The Take Away goods flow concept, consisting of the autonomous Open Shuttle transport system and the flexible 3D-capable YLOG Shuttle, enables automation of the entire warehouse and a direct connection to workstations in production. The cooperation between the two systems enables seamless production line supply. Knapp emerged from the final as the top innovator in the Volkswagen Scouting Logistics Innovations competition.
Christian Brauneis, Director Business Unit Industry Solutions at Knapp, on participating in the Innovation Day: "The combination of the highly flexible YLOG shuttle system and the highly flexible Open Shuttle transport system offers an ideal solution for the automated supply of workstations in production. The Top Innovator award presented to Knapp motivates and encourages us to continue our development activities in the direction of autonomous shuttles.
