Vanderlande wins VDI Logistics Innovation Award 2016

As part of the 25th German Material Flow Congress on March 17 and 18 in Garching near Munich, the VDI awarded the VDI Logistics Innovation Prize 2016 to Vanderlande. The award went to the 3D shuttle concept Adapto. Globalization, e-commerce and retailer-friendly delivery are examples of today's business processes that have a major impact on supply chains and distribution centers. Rising labor costs, limited space and many small orders with short delivery times - these are just some of the challenges facing warehouses and distribution centers today. One consequence of this is that warehouse automation must be able to adapt to the ever-changing business needs of customers. This is why Adapto was developed, part of Vanderlande's complete solutions and the next logical step in the development of flexible warehouse automation.
Modular concept allows customization
The highly flexible storage, retrieval and transportation concept offers five very significant advantages compared to other shuttle systems: Scalability, very high availability, enormous cost efficiency, ease of maintenance and sustainability.

The modular concept allows the shuttle system to be adapted to changing business requirements. Storage capacity and throughput can be scaled independently of each other. Adapto requires only a small initial investment and can be expanded gradually as a company grows strategically in the future. The risk of oversizing or undersizing a system is therefore no longer present.
Detour if required
In addition, Adapto offers very high system availability, as every shuttle can reach every parking space within the system. This unique feature allows shuttles to be rerouted to avoid potential blockages. All products are therefore accessible at all times.
Adapto has an extremely low energy consumption, as the mass of its shuttles and lifts to be moved is much lower compared to conventional storage/retrieval systems. It is also equipped with intelligent power monitoring, which recovers energy as soon as the lifts and shuttles brake.
The "Logistics Innovation Award" is presented annually by the VDI Society for Production and Logistics (VDI-GPL) and is awarded to the company that has made an outstanding contribution to innovation in logistics. The independent jury consists of competent and recognized experts. The sculpture by the artist Maximilian Verhas presented at the award ceremony is donated by the management consultancy B416.
