Company tour - Imperial logistics center
Many automotive groups outsource the supply of production and spare parts to certified partners. As the interface between manufacturer and supplier, Imperial takes over the supply of the required cable harnesses for the cockpit and engine compartment to the assembly line. These must be delivered to the assembly lines in the correct sequence, without interruption and fully automatically. A variety of emergency concepts ensure a high level of reliability in the Imperial logistics center. A highly redundant, well thought-out logistics automation system is required to ensure the supply of 210 vehicles per hour with 420 cable harnesses around the clock. The 100 x 100 meter hall houses two automated small parts warehouses (AKL) with 54,400 container storage locations, 11 storage and retrieval machines, conveyor lines and storage and retrieval locations. The cable harnesses are collected in AKL-1 until the pre-assembly call-off arrives. They are then transferred in towers to the highly available AKL-2. The respective cable harnesses for the interior and engine compartment are married per type and sequence, but stored in their own containers. The planners at Klinkhammer deliberately dispensed with robots and relied on sequencers (one per assembly line) and container stackers. Another highlight is the loading and unloading of the trucks, which is fully automated, just-in-sequence, in the order of planned production.
Evening program - VIP plant tour VW Wolfsburg
After the champagne reception in the VW press center, the factory tour starts through production, past the robot technology to final assembly. Only perfectly synchronized processes between the flow of materials and vehicles make it possible to complete a new car on time. Followed by a "Cars & Candlelight Dinner" directly in the press center of the VW plant.
