CeMAT 2018 - unique trade fair platform for the interplay of Logistics 4.0 and Industry 4.0

With the key theme of "Connected Supply Chain Solutions", CeMAT is providing the global impetus for the intralogistics industry to drive forward the digital networking of value and supply chains. According to an expert survey conducted by management consultants BearingPoint, eight out of ten companies from the manufacturing industry in Germany that are active in the supply chain sector are already addressing the issue of the connected supply chain. "If companies want to remain competitive, they need to network and digitalize their supply chain across company boundaries. Many companies are faced with the question of how to implement Logistics 4.0 concepts. CeMAT provides the answers. The focus here is on the interplay between Industry 4.0 and Logistics 4.0," says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Deutsche Messe AG. "Together with HANNOVER MESSE, we are creating a unique platform for the digitalization of the supply chain with more solutions and innovations than anywhere else in the world."

From April 23 to 27, 2018, CeMAT and HANNOVER MESSE will occupy the entire exhibition grounds in Hanover and show how the factory of the future will function and what contribution intralogistics will make.

Visitors to the Logistics Experience Hub, for example, can see how the two trade fairs interact. More than 30 exhibitors from CeMAT and HANNOVER MESSE will be presenting the latest technologies in various areas of the supply chain and using concrete examples to show where Logistics 4.0 concepts are already in use today. Jungheinrich, for example, will illustrate the topic of order picking, SMI Handling Systems will show how modern product handling works with vacuum technology, Copal will present innovative solutions for unloading and palletizing containers, Pepperl+Fuchs will provide information on identification technology solutions and the wearable computing experts from Unimax will show augmented reality solutions. HARTING will be presenting its Industry 4.0 solution MICA (Modular Industry Computing Architecture) and demonstrating how digitalization projects can be implemented quickly and easily directly on systems and machines. Köckler: "Industry 4.0 and Logistics 4.0 solutions are already available today and can be implemented in your own company. Visitors from industry and trade will experience the best of both worlds in Hanover in April and will be able to purchase these new technologies and integrated solutions."

Top-class forums accompany CeMAT

Together with partner associations and institutions, Deutsche Messe will organize two accompanying forums at CeMAT next year. The Logistics 4.0 Forum in Hall 19 will focus on future-oriented topics such as blockchain, IT security, human-robot communication, the digital shadow, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, augmented reality, drones in intralogistics, platforms and agile project management.

The Logistics Solutions Forum in Hall 21 will focus on best-practice examples from a wide range of industries. In addition to production, the focus will be on logistics solutions for retail and the food industry. The focus will be on returns management using intelligent containers as well as issues relating to the digitalization of warehouse logistics. At CeMAT, industry experts will be discussing the tasks that autonomous vehicles and mobile robots will be able to perform in warehouses in the future.

A new topic at CeMAT is urban logistics. The rapidly growing metropolitan areas are constantly presenting both internal and external logistics with new challenges. The German Logistics Association (BVL) will be offering a sequence on this topic at CeMAT. "In times of Logistics 4.0 and rising online sales, the supply chain needs to be rethought. What contribution can intralogistics make to ensure smooth delivery within growing metropolitan areas and what technological possibilities already exist, for example, to relieve the burden on people on the last mile? Are there international best practices and experiences that can be used for Europe or Germany?" says Köckler.

Start-ups at CeMAT

When it comes to innovations and new business models, start-ups are the obvious choice. At CeMAT, they will have their own platform in the Young Tech Enterprises exhibition area. The main Young Tech Enterprises stand will be located in Hall 17 in 2018 and is the hub for the startup scene at HANNOVER MESSE. There, the exhibition area will be complemented by a forum, pitches, matchmaking events and workshops.

The Young Tech Enterprises forum brings together talks and presentations from startups, startup networks, incubators and business promoters. The "Startup Pitches @ Young Tech Enterprises" competition invites young companies to present their products and developments in a short and crisp manner. The founders compete for cash and non-cash prizes as well as the attention of the media and investors.

"Whether with an information counter, a stand in the Cluster Park or simply a taster day, our offer for startups is geared towards young companies," explains Köckler "All startups at CeMAT can also take part in the live program in Hall 17. This is primarily about bringing startups together with investors and sponsors. Last year, around 100 startups presented themselves at HANNOVER MESSE in the Young Tech Enterprises area, around 50 startups at the joint stands of states or other organizers and around 50 startups as individual exhibitors.
