Storage and shelving systems

Daniel Schilling,

The future of storage systems

Constantly changing supply chains and sales markets present companies with immense challenges. In this dynamic environment, flexible and scalable solutions are more in demand than ever. This is precisely where Gebhardt Upstream comes in.

The rising costs of logistics properties, especially in urban areas, require optimized space management solutions. Gebhardt Upstream aims to meet this need primarily through its compact and modular design and by dispensing with continuous conveyors and lifters. The simultaneous flexible scalability of the shuttles and robots also makes the system adaptable and easy to expand.

At the heart of the system is the Gebhardt OLS X Shuttle storage system with horizontal roaming and a grid stored above it. In addition, established storage technology from Gebhardt such as the Store Biter OLS X Shuttle, the Store Diver and Simple Pick workstations are used.

Three moving components - in one system

Three actively moving components are integrated into the Upstream storage system: Store Biter OLS X shuttles handle storage and retrieval within the warehouse and enable a wide variety of length, width and height ratios. Euro standard containers of different heights can be stored on each storage level. The Store Diver robots play a central role in the processing of individual customer orders. Thanks to AI-optimized route planning and intelligent delivery of the source containers, the Store Diver enables precise sequencing, especially for very small order quantities, and direct access to the containers. Work stations and I/O conveyor technology can be placed on three sides of the warehouse, ensuring highly efficient delivery to the work stations.

The Gebhardt Store Diver robots move freely on the grid level and pick up containers from the transfer points within the rack. With a maximum retrieval time of just two minutes per container, depending on the project size and geometry, Upstream is setting new standards in intralogistics.

Several target containers and simultaneous orders can be processed at the Simple-Pick-Flexible workstations. The workstation structure is designed according to ergonomic aspects and enables dynamic order processing.

The Store Ware logistics software combines material flow (MFS) and warehouse management (WMS) on one platform and offers customers centralized data management. Interfaces to ERP and WMS systems enable seamless integration into existing IT infrastructures. The software uses deep reinforcement learning for optimal route finding and increased throughput. The 3D visualization enables quick troubleshooting. Each Store Ware module is available individually and can be combined with the Galileo IoT and Galileo Insight platforms.
