Sirum connects TMS with Timocom freight exchange

The Hamburg-based software company Sirum has connected its Transport Management System (TMS) to Timocom's freight exchange. This allows logistics service providers to plan and manage their existing orders as well as search for new ones and post their own in a single system. The required data is transferred directly between the Sirum TMS and Timocom's marketplace.

"For transport and logistics companies that use our TMS and already use Timocom's freight exchange or want to use it in the future, we offer real added value with this connection. The automated transfer of data enables them to significantly reduce their daily workload and time expenditure, thereby improving their competitiveness," says Dennis Ringhofer, Managing Partner Technology & Product at Sirum.

All transport processes at a glance

Sirum's web-based TMS covers all transport management processes, from order management to scheduling and invoicing. Depending on requirements, the modular system can be expanded to include additional functions such as warehouse or fleet/driver management. The decisive impetus for connecting the freight exchange ultimately came from a customer request. With up to one million international freight and loading space offers every day, Timocom's marketplace is the most important platform for road freight transport in Europe.

Before a connection can be made, a check of the provider is mandatory. After successful testing of Sirum, the freight exchange interface with the two modules "Input" and "Search" was implemented at the beginning of this year. Full integration of the Timocom marketplace is planned in the medium term. The next step could be to connect the "Transport orders" and "Shipment tracking" interfaces. Among other things, these allow an order to be automatically translated into the recipient's national language, the estimated time of arrival of a shipment (ETA) and status updates to be displayed directly in the TMS and shared with business partners.

Removing isolated solutions as an obstacle to digitization

Gina Semmelhack, Head of Sales & Partner at Sirum, sees this as an opportunity to further consolidate important functions for transport and logistics companies: "Isolated solutions hinder the important process of digitalization. That's why we attach great importance to the openness of our solution and always try to establish connections where it makes sense and make them usable for our customers."
