A life-long logistician

Martin Schrüfer,

Heinrich Grieshaber deceased

Heinrich Grieshaber, founder and owner of the logistics service provider of the same name, passed away on March 29, 2020, after a short, serious illness at Friedrichshafen Hospital at the age of 71. As the founder and former Chairman of the Management Board, he most recently accompanied Grieshaber Logistik GmbH, headquartered in Weingarten, as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Heinrich Grieshaber was a committed entrepreneur and promoter throughout his life. In 2018, he published the success story of his company in book form under the title "Vollgas" on his 70th birthday. One year later, Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs of the state of Baden-Württemberg, awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in October 2019.

His career began with an apprenticeship as a car mechanic. He then studied mechanical engineering with a specialization in business administration at the University of Applied Sciences in Constance (now HTWG). In 1971, he joined his parents' transport company and just one year later, at the age of 24, took over as branch manager at the Weingarten site, the company's current headquarters in Baden-Württemberg.

Under his leadership, the company established a global network and became internationally successful. In the fall of 2018, Heinrich Grieshaber handed over operational management to Managing Directors Roland Futterer, Gregor Schnell and Alexander Tesch. He remained involved as Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

In 2014, he and his wife Gabriele founded the Grieshaber Corporate Foundation. Above all, it secures the future of jobs and supports employees of the Group who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own. To this end, the Gabriele and Heinrich Grieshaber Foundation pursues exclusively social purposes. It improves educational opportunities for socially disadvantaged children and young people.

The entrepreneur has held numerous offices in the Baden-Württemberg economy. From 2008 to 2018, he was President of the IHK Bodensee-Oberschwaben and from 2010 to 2014 Vice President of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce. His passion for chamber work began in 1973 as a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. It continued uninterrupted from 1982 onwards with involvement in many committees and boards. Until his death, he was also on the advisory board of the Friedrichshafen Institute for Family Business at Zeppelin University, on the university council of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in Ravensburg and, since 2009, on the supervisory board of Messe Friedrichshafen.

His advice was also in demand in numerous associations in the logistics and transport industry. He was involved in the SVG's Akabe II working group and was active in the Bundesverband Güterverkehr und Logistik (BGL), Bundesverband Spedition und Logistik (DVSL), Verband Spedition und Logistik Baden-Württemberg (VSL), the Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL), the Verband des Württembergischen Verkehrsgewerbes (VVW) and the Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik (BME).
