GvSH criticizes the end of the Flensburg port
The Schleswig-Holstein Ports Association (GvSH) has received the latest decision by the Flensburg council with incomprehension and great regret. A majority of the city parliament had decided to discontinue port activities on the east bank of the fjord by 2022.
"We had hoped that the port of Flensburg would be given a perspective. There was an encouraging report that confirmed that the location on the east bank had good future prospects. On the west bank, the port is being denied any growth. This will cost jobs and hinder rather than promote the economic development of the region," said GvSH Chairman Sebastian Jürgens. Together with the Flensburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and in close cooperation with Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Economic Affairs Bernd Buchholz, the GvSH had campaigned until the end for the existing location to be retained and further developed.
