ID Logistics develops trimodal logistics site in the inland port of Germersheim
As part of its global real estate strategy, ID Logistics is revitalizing one of its German locations. The international contract logistics company is planning to build 23,000 square meters of sustainable new space in the trimodal inland port of Germersheim.
Founded in France in 2001, the company currently operates 5.5 million square meters of warehouse space in 18 countries in Europe, Latin and North America, Asia and Africa and employs around 20,000 people. In Europe, the company operates successfully in nine countries at almost 200 locations.
Since 2005, ID Logistics has also been developing logistics real estate for its own needs and for contract logistics customers in Europe with its own real estate department. The company thus acts both as a contract service provider and as a landlord. Three models are possible in these roles: ID Logistics either operates the locations with its own employees, manages outsourcing projects as a contract logistics partner or leases the space to third parties in individual cases. ID Logistics' portfolio of developed locations currently amounts to 760,000 square meters of logistics space in Europe alone.
The 37,000 sqm logistics site at the established logistics location of Germersheim - a district with a population of over 125,000 that is characterized by logistics personnel and employee availability - was built around 40 years ago and has been owned by ID Logistics since 2010. The plan is to demolish the outdated existing building, including a high-bay warehouse that is no longer in use, and start construction work on a 23,000 m² logistics complex in 2020. The new building is to be constructed and certified in accordance with the internationally recognized BREEAM standard (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) or the ecological guidelines of the DNGB (German Sustainable Building Council).
In 2021, the third-party-usable, WGK-capable areas with a direct transshipment point between cargo ship, rail and truck can be made available to the market. The Rhine port of Germersheim offers direct train connections to the major European overseas ports such as Rotterdam and Antwerp several times a week as an origin and destination, especially for exports and imports. The efficient infrastructure also includes direct road connections to the B 35 and B 9 with access to the A5, A8, A61 and A65 freeways.
