Assign more precisely
Founded in 1804 as a household goods manufacturer by master tinsmith Johann Georg Reichwald, Reichwald + Co is now active in the steel trade. Order management presented the family business with a challenge: incorrect allocation of the mostly heavy components could quickly become a time factor. Part of the solution for more reliable processes: the Nimmsta Pro hand-held back scanner.
Every additional crane lift costs unnecessary time and therefore money. Previously, we worked with commission slips in paper form. This was very cumbersome and problematic. Retrieving components took a very long time and it was impossible to change the location of customer commissions to be processed. For these reasons, the desire arose to optimize the processes. Dynamic information was to be made available, as well as the transparency and traceability of individual work steps. Reichwald + Co was looking for a new solution to simplify the work steps and optimize the processes at the same time. The decision was made in favor of the Nimmsta hand-held back scanner. The family business was particularly impressed by the freedom to adapt various work processes itself, the flexibility of the system and its robustness.
The solution
The system is used for picking customer orders, consolidating customer orders and "sorting" components for existing customer orders. In the future, inventory work and a permanent inventory are also to be implemented using the system. With twelve Nimmsta backhand scanners, the entire order picking process has been converted to paperless.
Easy integration Reichwald + Co uses Nimmsta Pro. This means that the scanner is connected bidirectionally to the merchandise management system and allows free configuration of the touch display. Information about the next order, such as item location, quantity, weight, dimensions of the component, delivery date and customer name, appears on the display. Entries can also be made via the touch display. The display, the type of information and the input options can be customized. Employees can thus be guided interactively through the work process.
In addition to the ease of integration and the advantages on the software side, the scanner also offers various positive aspects in terms of hardware, according to the company. The advantage of the small back-of-hand scanner is that it weighs only 45 g. When worn, it is hardly noticeable on the back of the hand. Employees have their hands free to pick the heavy steel components. This also significantly increases work safety. The integrated high-performance scanner captures barcodes up to four meters away. Barcodes on components that are further away on the conveyor belt, for example, can therefore be scanned without any problems. The scanner manages 6,000 scan cycles and up to four scans per second. Thanks to the long battery life, employees can use the scanner for eight hours during the entire shift. Nimmsta offers a modular system consisting of cuffs for left and right-handed users (S/M/L), trigger pads with triggers (right/left) and high-performance scanners.
According to the company, a time saving of 50 percent was achieved in the search process. Managing Director Falko Reichwald estimates that a high five-figure sum is saved annually by converting to the Nimmsta back-of-hand scanners.
