Colorbaby distributes toys, outdoor leisure products and household goods from its warehouse in Ibi, Alicante, Spain. The company previously used a fleet of industrial trucks from various manufacturers. After more than five years of good experience with Crown, the decision was made to choose the company as a full-service provider for the forklift fleet.

The Crown fleet at Colorbaby includes reach trucks from the ESR series, high-lift order pickers from the SP series, low-lift order pickers from the GPC series, three-wheel counterbalance trucks from the SC series and pallet trucks with an operator platform from the WT series. In particular, the pallet truck with operator platform from Crown's WT series makes a significant contribution to the efficiency of the forklift fleet: With its robust design, reinforced chassis, sturdy side brackets and good protection for key components, it has proven itself in loading and ramp operations.

The FlexRide suspension reduces shock loads on the operator platform by up to 80 percent, allows forklift drivers to work more productively and prevents signs of fatigue. Gaspar Valls, Logistics Manager at Colorbaby, explains: "The WT series suspension was particularly well received. All operators emphasized the smooth ride and agile chassis. Another positive aspect was that the usual bumps, knocks and vibrations experienced when driving on ramps were much less noticeable than expected. Since introducing the WT, we have been able to significantly increase our productivity. And our entire team works with even greater motivation."

The reach truck from Crown's ESR series is used in various areas at the distribution center in Ibi. The seasonal business plays a major role at Colorbaby, so the racking and storage systems are specially adapted to this. "Garden pools, for example, are stored in our warehouse for summer products, which is equipped with drive-in racking. The ESR stacker's overhead guard must be designed accordingly," explains Valls. "Our full pallet warehouse, on the other hand, is equipped with double-deep racking that can be over 9 meters high. The ESR trucks from Crown have a comprehensive camera system and hydraulic, double-deep extendable forks, giving our operators a clear and safe view of the load at all times."

Additional order picking capacities handled with ease

The core of Colorbaby's business model is the company's business-to-business concept. Customers can access Colorbaby's entire product range directly via an online portal. Most orders include several products. This is precisely where the GPC series order pickers provide real relief in operations. All vehicles in this series used in the warehouse have smooth-running and fast-responding electronic power steering. With the X10 tiller, all functions can be carried out simultaneously, regardless of which hand is used. Overall, the employees found that the truck was easy to drive and position in the aisle. Thanks to the targeted use of GPC order pickers with platform lift, the additional order picking capacity required could also be managed without any problems. Here, operators benefit from a stable platform that can be raised to a height of up to 950 mm. This means they can easily reach the second picking level and have access to more than 2,000 additional picking stations.

The three-wheel counterbalance truck with electric drive from Crown's SC series is also used in different areas throughout the warehouse. The SC series is suitable for unloading pallets as well as for storing and retrieving seasonal items in narrow drive-in racks. Gaspar Valls emphasizes the high level of acceptance among the operators: "All our test drivers were very impressed with the SC series. The ergonomic fingertip control levers require only minimal hand movements. They particularly praised the excellent visibility, the high level of comfort and the generally easy handling."

Working for the customer every day

All appliances at Colorbaby are regularly checked by an experienced Crown service technician. This keeps the entire fleet in perfect condition and any problems can be identified and rectified quickly and efficiently. Colorbaby's maintenance management team is delighted with the service technicians' commitment: "The fact that they were able to solve any problems that arose has only increased our confidence. Our operators had to be trained on the special features of the new trucks without disrupting the day-to-day operations at the distribution center. The changeover went quickly and smoothly with the Crown service team on site, who took care of the correct configuration of the trucks for each application."

Gaspar Valls comes to a clear conclusion: "Crown has developed into an indispensable and reliable partner for Colorbaby. We originally chose Crown because of its quality products and technical services. Today, we also appreciate Crown's reliability and professionalism in our proven collaboration."
