Climate Alliance Baden-Württemberg
Schmalz wants to be climate-neutral from 2050
Schmalz has signed the new Baden-Württemberg Climate Alliance. The company's self-imposed goal: to save 3440 tons of greenhouse gases by 2030. Climate neutrality is to be achieved by 2050.
Together with 16 other companies from the state, J. Schmalz has become the first member of the new Baden-Württemberg Climate Alliance. On October 7, State Environment Minister Franz Untersteller presented the companies with their membership certificates at the ninth Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Congress in Baden-Württemberg. With their commitment to the Climate Alliance, these companies have set themselves ambitious goals: They want to become climate-neutral, reduce their overall energy consumption and manufacture their products with as little carbon dioxide as possible.
Schmalz has been acting sustainably for a long time. "The carbon dioxide rucksack of a Schmalz product is significantly smaller than that of comparable products on the market," emphasizes Andreas Beutel, Managing Director of J. Schmalz GmbH. "By joining the new climate protection alliance, we are supporting the necessary change and actively setting a good example."
According to the agreement, Schmalz expects to be climate-neutral by 2050. An important interim target has been set for 2030: In ten years, there should be at least 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions in the carbon footprint than in 2018 - despite planned sales growth. That corresponds to 3,440 tons. To achieve this, the vacuum expert is using its own renewable energy sources and improving the energy efficiency of its buildings, among other things. Transportation and distribution routes are also being scrutinized, as are business trips. Where it makes sense, video conferences are replacing on-site appointments. Schmalz also wants to reduce the emissions of its vehicle fleet. The company is also keeping an eye on upstream and downstream processes - from development to recycling.
