New multi-gripper from Schmalz

Schmalz has designed a new multi-gripper for the vacuum tube lifters in the JumboFlex series. Thanks to additive manufacturing technology, it is particularly light and compact.

The new gripper is available in two different formats. The strength of the new multi-gripper lies in the safe handling of cartons of different sizes and qualities. With its bellows suction cups, it compensates for unevenness and, thanks to its compact format and the lateral protrusion of the suction cups, enables workpieces to be gripped even from the corners of a KLT container. J. Schmalz GmbH developed this versatile component with the aim of providing the user with a flat and lightweight tool with an optimized suction cup connection. This is made possible by the combination of an additively manufactured housing with a cover plate made of the lightweight material aluminum. The additive manufacturing process enables round edges and eliminates the need for additional edge protection.

Schmalz offers the new multi-gripper in two sizes: 362 x 238 x 86 millimetres for the JumboFlex 50 with a maximum load capacity of 50 kilograms and a 256 x 238 x 86 millimetre version for the smaller JumboFlex 20 and 35 series (maximum load capacity 20 and 35 kilograms respectively). Each version safely handles different carton sizes and qualities, thus eliminating the need for time-consuming gripper changes. Even unstable or open cartons can be handled quickly and accurately using the multi-gripper. All that is needed for a safe lifting process is for 75 percent of the suction cups to be occupied by the workpiece.
