Order for Jungheinrich
Automated guided vehicle system for Codorníu
Codorníu, a Spanish cava and wine producer, commissions Jungheinrich to automate pallet transportation at its Sant Sadurní d'Anoia site in north-eastern Spain.
As the world's largest producer of bottle-fermented sparkling wine, Codorníu operates 14 wine cellars. To cope with this high production volume, the semi-automated and digitalized material flow is supported by an automated guided vehicle system (AGV), which guarantees the transport processes.
The Jungheinrich solution for Codorníu is a combination of manual and automated warehouse operation. Nine automated guided vehicles (AGVs) will be supplied for this purpose. The new ERC 213a will transport the goods between the individual rack and block warehouses, which together have over 6,000 storage locations. The AGVs are also responsible for stacking and unstacking the pallets.
Thanks to its design, the ERC 213a is suitable for working in narrow aisle widths and can lift loads of up to 1,300 kg to a maximum lifting height of 3,800 mm. The electrically controlled lift motor ensures lifting and lowering - even at such high lifting heights. The vehicles are steered by control software. Navigation is carried out using laser technology. For this purpose, reflectors are installed along the 700 m long route, which the ERC 213a can use to orient itself in space.
To ensure safety in such mixed operations with manual vehicles and pedestrians, the AGVs are equipped with a personal protection scanner. These continuously scan the vehicle's surroundings for obstacles. The automation solution from Jungheinrich operates here as a connected system. The new AGV is integrated into Codorníu's existing Warehouse Management System (WMS) via a logistics interface. This enables communication between employees and industrial trucks and ensures transparent warehouse processes.
At the same time, the lithium-ion technology guarantees handling performance and availability, as the AGVs are equipped with the automatic charging function. The AGV automates standardized routine work and allows Codorníu to deploy its employees much better and more effectively.
