Hydrogen truck
Fleet expansion with funding
While the first hydrogen trucks are in practical operation with users, Hylane is continuing to expand its rental business: With Iveco, the Cologne-based company has gained an additional established manufacturer as a partner.
Logistics giant DB Cargo is now also one of Hylane's customers. The growth of the fleet is made possible by funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV). The company passes on 100 percent of the funding to its customers in the form of reduced rental rates. Ministerial Director Johannes Wieczorek handed over the 25 million euro grant to the management on May 9 at the Transport Logistic trade fair in Munich.
"In order to achieve the climate targets,CO2 emissions in transport must be significantly reduced," says Wieczorek. "We are delighted to support Hylane on the road to sustainable road freight transport." With the help of the funding, Hylane will expand its fleet by 78 hydrogen trucks. Managing Director Sara Schiffer comments: "Our rental model gives companies easy access to climate-neutral mobility. We use the funding exclusively to reduce the rental rates for our users." At the press event, Hylane announced its new partnership with commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco: The two companies will collaborate on the provision of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV).
In addition to the purchase of commercial vehicles, they are also cooperating on servicing. In future, Hylane customers will be able to have maintenance and repair work carried out at a number of selected and certified workshops in the Iveco service network. Hylane has also gained another prominent customer in DB Cargo Full Load Solutions (FLS). The leased tractor units will initially be used in the Hamburg region. Following initial federal funding of 14.8 million euros in 2021, Hylane has already procured 44 vehicles. The fleet is set to comprise 122 trucks by the end of 2024.
