Award in Düsseldorf
BSK Award for heavy goods logistics specialist Gustav Seeland
Gustav Seeland received an award at the BSK Awards ceremony of the Bundesfachgruppe für Schwertransport und Kranarbeiten e. V. in Düsseldorf. The heavy goods logistics specialist was awarded second place for its services in the field of assembly.
The prize was awarded for the transportation, lifting and installation of a total of five escalators for the new Elbbrücken subway station in Hamburg. When awarding the prize, the judges took particular account of the Gustav Seeland team's mastery of the complex task under extremely difficult conditions.
The low loader transport of the approximately 9 meter long and 2 meter wide escalators from the manufacturer to the new subway station was the easiest part of the task. On the other hand, the installation and assembly of the elements, each weighing 8.4 tons, in the shell of the glass station was difficult. Assembly in the tightest of spaces required precise planning of the project and the use of special equipment. To complete the job, the assembly team relied on trolleys, electric chain hoists, heavy-duty towers, lifting frame jacks and a mini crane. To prevent damage during the transport of the escalators, the platforms, some of which were only 3 meters wide, were also covered with steel plates.
The installation of the 5th escalator posed a particular challenge for the heavy load experts. Moving from platform to platform required the attachment of two steel girders, the use of armored rollers and a 6.5-ton forklift. This was the only way that the experienced specialists from Seeland were able to install the 5th escalator in the tightest of spaces without any problems and with a precise fit. Now nothing stands in the way of the opening of the new station. The Elbbrücken subway station is scheduled to go into operation on December 9th.
With this new award, the independent jury makes it clear that Gustav Seeland GmbH is one of the top companies in the industry in Germany. Managing Director Johann Evers sees the award as confirmation of the excellent performance of his entire team. "We are very pleased that we have once again been recognized for our qualified work. This motivates our entire team to continue to give their best," says Johann Evers, Managing Director of Gustav Seeland GmbH.
