Three percent growth for German intralogistics companies in 2015

Frankfurt, 26.02.2016 - With a production volume of 20.1 billion euros, German providers of intralogistics and conveyor technology solutions are defying the uncertainties on the global markets. The industry thus grew by 3 percent compared to the previous year. The German Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association also expects growth of 3 percent for 2016.

The good annual result is due, among other things, to the positive development in the European domestic market as well as in other important target countries.

"In 2015, companies benefited above all from target sectors that are close to the end customer, such as online retail in all its facets or the automotive industry," explains Wilfried Neuhaus-Galladé (pictured), Chairman of the Board of the German Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association. "We generally see a great willingness to invest in conveyor technology and intralogistics in the leading industrial nations, which is also reflected in the increased export figures."
In total, German companies exported intralogistics products worth 13.7 billion euros in 2015. Compared to the previous year, this is an increase of 5 percent. Alongside the USA and France, the UK moved up into the top three most important buyer countries in 2015, relegating China to fourth place. As in 2014, the EU-28 countries and other European countries remain the most important sales region for German manufacturers.
Stable situation in difficult waters
Despite the positive results for 2015, the general conditions remain difficult: weak economic growth, geopolitical tensions and domestic political challenges in Germany are also keeping intralogistics providers busy. "Last year, the mood among companies was often worse than the actual economic situation. They are required to react even more flexibly and quickly to changes. However, the figures suggest that they have managed this well so far," emphasizes Sascha Schmel, Managing Director of the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association.

German manufacturers continue to benefit from their good global reputation and the quality of their solutions. "The higher the degree of industrialization, the higher the demands on intralogistics solutions. Our companies are international leaders in this high-tech segment and are also working hard to further expand this top level," says Sascha Schmel.

Industry 4.0 is already a reality in many areas of intralogistics. Nevertheless, the topic is providing new impetus due to its broad publicity. "On the user side, Industry 4.0 is moving more into focus and the willingness for networked and automated solutions is increasing. And this is ultimately also reflected in the suppliers' order books," summarizes Schmel. red
