Dematic automates Siemens plant with AutoStore
The intralogistics specialist Dematic is automating the Siemens plant for combination technology in Chemnitz. Dematic is implementing the warehouse and an AutoStore goods-to-person picking system with directly connected conveyor technology.
Manual shelf storage replaced
In future, various installation and electronic components that are used at the production site for control cabinets for control systems will be stored in more than 45,000 containers in the small parts warehouse. The AutoStore system replaces a manually operated shelf storage system. The automation is intended to save time and costs, increase capacity for production logistics and further reduce the error rate when assembling components.
Using warehouse space more efficiently
"Siemens' top priority was to compress the storage space. Our compact AutoStore system provides an efficient, precise and reliable solution for this," says Jessica Heinz, Head of Marketing and Business Development Dematic Central Europe. The modular piece goods picking system is installed on an area of around 780 square meters. "The system achieves maximum storage density with minimum space requirements and thus ensures optimum use of space," says Heinz. The system is due to go into operation at the end of the year.
Siemens is integrating the new storage system into the IT landscape with its in-house software solution ASIS (AutoStore Integration Service). This has already proven its worth at the Bad Neustadt/Saale site. It will serve as a link between AutoStore, SAP, conveyor technology and the employees.
