Terminal with annual record
Baltic Rail Gate cracks the hundred thousand mark
Baltic Rail Gate (BRG) will handle units in the six-figure range for the first time in the company's history this year. At the intermodal terminal in Lübeck-Travemünde, one of the two gantry cranes lifted the one hundred thousandth loading unit today. This represents an increase of over 10% compared to the previous year.
A refrigerated container from Spedition Bode caused the counter to jump to the six-figure mark. It arrived in Lübeck from Rotterdam via Duisburg and is continuing its journey to Sweden today. The Reinfeld-based family business consistently relies on combined transport. The entire fleet is rail-compatible.
"It was already clear by the middle of the year that it could work this time. The fact that we have now actually reached the one hundred thousand mark naturally fills us with pride," explains Managing Director Antje Falk, adding: "We have benefited from the positive development of volumes at Skandinavienkai. But it also shows that intermodal transport via Lübeck is becoming increasingly attractive for freight forwarders." This is the result of years of effort: At the Lübeck site, work has been ongoing to bring combined transport forward.
BRG is a subsidiary of Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr and Lübecker Hafen-Gesellschaft (LHG). The terminal began operations in 2003. Today, BRG offers 50 direct connections a week to five German and two destinations in northern Italy.
