New conductor material for conductor rails

Conductix-Wampfler presents solution for transmitting high currents

Conductix-Wampfler, a manufacturer of systems for energy and data transmission to moving loads, has developed a new conductor rail variant for transmitting high currents during downtimes: CopperECO is an alternative to conventional systems.

System manufacturers and operators are faced with the major challenge of ensuring the transmission of high currents while the unit is stationary in the direction of travel. In standstill operation, as is the case with load handling attachments in lifting operation without simultaneous longitudinal travel of the crane, for example, there have only been two alternatives for the conductor rail material to date. Either cost-intensive copper with the best conductivity or aluminum/stainless steel variants. Although the latter are cheaper than copper, their material properties mean that they tend to heat up locally when stationary. In order to ensure the safe operation of the systems, even in critical applications, complex multiple current collector combinations with high space requirements often have to be installed.

Attractive alternative to copper and aluminum-stainless steel

With CopperECO, Conductix-Wampfler now offers an alternative in terms of price-performance ratio compared to copper. The rail type also offers significantly improved conductivity compared to aluminum-stainless steel and thus allows the safe transmission of high currents even during standstill operation. CopperECO is also suitable for demanding outdoor environmental conditions, such as in seaports. CopperECO rail types are available for Conductix-Wampfler's Single PowerLine 0812 and 0813 conductor rail ranges and are particularly suitable for supplying power to container and overhead cranes, stacker cranes, cable-drawn passenger transportation systems and amusement rides.
