Fruit Logistica 2019
Hamburg Süd introduces Remote Container Management
Hamburg Süd is presenting the future use of Remote Container Management (RCM) at Fruit Logistica in Berlin - the world's most important trade fair for the trade in fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables. All reefer containers used by Hamburg Süd have been equipped with RCM technology in recent months. Using satellite and mobile radio technology, RCM makes it possible to monitor the refrigerated container and the condition of the cargo inside it around the clock in real time, for example the location, temperature profile, relative humidity or oxygen andCO2 concentration. Certain settings can also be adjusted remotely.
Compared to previously used monitoring systems, customers can use an online platform or an app on their tablet or smartphone to get a convenient overview of the conditions for their cargo in the container at any time. They are also automatically informed when individually defined parameters or limit values are reached. "RCM is a real game changer for the important reefer market. The added value is that customers can use this data not only to better control their supply chain, but also to make it much more efficient and secure," said Frank Smet, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Hamburg Süd.
As part of the Maersk Group, Hamburg Süd can offer its customers more than 370,000 reefer containers worldwide, the largest reefer fleet in the industry, which is also fully equipped with RCM, ensuring seamless availability of the innovative technology. This is also unique in the industry. The RCM technology is currently being tested with customers and will be available to all customers from the third quarter. Thanks to the seamless monitoring of the condition of the load, customers can react to changes during the entire transport process and not just at the destination. "This offers shippers great potential for cost savings," says Frank Smet. At the same time, the demands on carriers are increasing, as they need to be able to respond flexibly to customers' increased requirements. "At Hamburg Süd, we use the advantages of digitalization for our customers without neglecting personal customer service and close consultation. With our experienced employees in over 250 offices worldwide, we can respond to the individual needs of our customers locally at any time," explains Frank Smet.
Visitors to Fruit Logistica in Berlin from February 6 to 8 can find out more about these and other topics relating to the transportation of temperature-sensitive cargo at the Hamburg Süd stand (Hall 25, Stand A - 10).
