Eurogate Wilhelmshaven grows and increases staff by 50 percent
Wilhelmshaven, 30.08.2017 -

Eurogate is recording growth at Germany's only deep-water port. Since May, the monthly container throughput in scheduled services has doubled: two major alliances have been calling at the container terminal in Wilhelmshaven for almost four months. Feeder connections and new rail services complete the spectrum. The extensive new recruitment program aims to increase the current number of employees at the Eurogate site in Wilhelmshaven from 400 to up to 600. It is part of a program for the future: with the major alliances and their world's largest container ships, higher handling volumes are coming to the seaports, which must be handled quickly and efficiently by the container terminal operators. Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven is ideally suited to handling the services of the major alliances productively due to its nautical access conditions and the size of its area.
Mikkel Andersen, Managing Director of Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven: "Since the consolidation from four to three major alliances, our monthly handling figures have doubled and we are experiencing a significant increase in interest in EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven both regionally and nationally. Now it is a matter of securing the future and our competitiveness. Compared to other port locations, Wilhelmshaven is a young port with a very young container terminal. The current consolidation process of the shipping companies and the resulting change processes in the market offer Eurogate in Wilhelmshaven the opportunity to establish ourselves as a "first class" container terminal. We want to and must seize this opportunity now. In this way, we are expanding our future viability in a difficult competitive situation."
The increase in personnel will take place as quickly as possible, but will take account of developments in handling. Eurogate carries out the training with its own trainers. The search for suitable applicants is aimed at the entire labor market, preferably from the region around Wilhelmshaven, and includes jobseekers who are currently unemployed.
"In the past, cooperation with the employment agency was an important building block in the development and qualification of personnel. Of course, we also want to continue to actively use this recruitment channel. We are recruiting for all different functions in the commercial sector. Applicants should be suitable for any commercial task in the port. This includes operating the large handling equipment as well as physically demanding lashing," says Mikkel Andersen. red
