Handling forklift trucks, pallet trucks and transport trolleys still poses risks that should not be underestimated. Accident analyses also show that collision accidents are a focal point. In 2017, the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) counted over 220,000 accidents on transport routes in or around companies. Around 85,000 of these accidents occurred during storage or loading and unloading. In 2018, there were over 36,000 accidents involving industrial trucks and material transport vehicles. This means that around 15 percent of internal transport accidents were caused by situations involving forklift trucks, pallet trucks, sack trucks or wheelbarrows. Forklifts were also involved in 64% of all serious accidents involving industrial trucks.
