Daifuku: Automated shipping of organic vegetables
Japanese material handling expert Daifuku installed an order picking system for organic delivery service Riverford Organic Farmers Ltd. in Devon, UK, at the beginning of 2017. Every week, 47,000 organic boxes are packed and dispatched. Riverford owns five farms whose organic produce is packed after harvesting and sent to households in England and South Wales. Daifuku supplied a picking system with pick-by-light technology for transporting the dry and frozen goods in the warehouse. The warehouse management and control system determines the required containers and controls the picking and packing process. Efficiency and system performance have been improved through the use of the pick-by-light system. With this investment, Riverford is optimizing its operational processes and consolidating its position as a quality organic delivery service.
