Emirates SkyCargo readjusts cargo operations
Emirates SkyCargo has adapted its flight operations and route network to the current rapidly changing situation. Emirates' cargo division is thus ensuring the easier transportation of important goods and helping to keep global supply chains running despite the coronavirus pandemic.
To this end, Emirates SkyCargo has announced a new schedule for its global cargo operations, including cargo flights on its Boeing 777 passenger aircraft. These will offer around 40 tons of lower deck cargo per flight, adding to the cargo capacity of Emirates' freighter fleet. The cargo-only flights will serve more than 30 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia. Frankfurt is also on the flight schedule: With immediate effect, Emirates will fly once daily between the Main metropolis and Dubai with a Boeing 777-300ER, transporting cargo only. In addition, Emirates SkyCargo will continue to offer three-weekly connections between Dubai and Frankfurt with one of its777 freighters.
In addition, Emirates SkyCargo will stop twice a week in Frankfurt on a longer rotation from Dubai via Frankfurt to Mexico City, Houston and Amsterdam back to Dubai. In addition to these scheduled operations, Emirates SkyCargo will continue to operate charter and ad-hoc flights based on market demand. On Monday, March 30, 2020, an Emirates SkyCargo flight landed at São Paulo airport with 500,000 COVID-19 test kits, which the Emirates cargo division had previously transported from Guangzhou to Brazil via Dubai. In the same week, Emirates also operated two special charters with almost 200 tons of medical supplies such as hand sanitizers and face masks from Hong Kong to Sydney. As part of another special charter service, a Boeing 777 freighter also transported almost 100 tons of relief supplies including hospital equipment to Milan, while a further 55 tons of temperature-sensitive medicines were flown from Mumbai to New York.
On April 1, 2020, Emirates SkyCargo consolidated all its cargo operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and temporarily suspended operations at Emirates SkyCentral DWC, the terminal handling Emirates freighters. This is to ensure smooth cargo operations between Emirates SkyCargo's regular freighter flights and the new special cargo flights offered on Emirates' passenger aircraft fleet.
